  1. I had this on my iPad and accidentally sank the ship with the first of my relatives because I couldn’t catch up or get away 😂. Good to see it again

  2. Not only the best pirate game ever, but one of the best games all together.
The original was good enough, but how many remakes many years later gets this much better?

Praise Sid Meier! Well, and Ontinti too I guess…

  3. This game is giving me some hard-core mount and blade vibes just as pirates, I think a new game of this or something similar could be very successful in today's gaming industry.

  4. I payed this back but sea dogs was much better game

  5. Port royal is a good pirates adaptation

  6. I always capture all the ships and sell them at the first post. More reliable income than selling the goods, the shipwright never runs out of money. 🙂

  7. K O L O N I S A T I E

    Always go dutch

It also took me 12 years to find out that you can bombard ports to lower their strength

  8. I wish Firaxis would get their heads out of remaking Civ over and over and make a better (less twee) version of this.

  9. Too bad my new laptop doesn't have a key pad, can't play this game now anymore!

  10. It has no equal! I played this way back in the day.

  11. this is one of my favorite games, i still play it. i would love it if they would make a new version of this or just a remake

  12. Sony could be making games with big breasted wenches in the Caribbean but chose to make Concord instead

  13. I feel like I've seen this version before… is this really a 2024 version?

  14. Played it so much in '87 and 88 that I didn't need any map to recognize where a treasure was buried from one quarter of a treasure map; in other words: I played this way too much! It probably cost me at least one Quickshot Pro joystick 😉

Not sure anymore, if the dances were part of my C64 version back then. If I recall correctly, you just had to do a good job for a governor to finally get to marry his daughter. Weirdly, those dances are what annoyed me in the remake the most. But I've never been much for QTE.

I'm still waiting for an expansion or successor where you, as a governor yourself then, can use your gathered (pirated) riches to fortify your home town against younger pirates. The challenge in that would be to make it to final retirement with as much fame and as big a castle/hazienda as possible before death finds you.

  15. This was really the best pirate game ever. Others have tried but this remains kind of the gold standard. Sid Meier also did great versions of Railroads and Gettysburg. I wish they spent as much time doing updates of these games as they have the Civ series: I never played it and never will. The three remakes for all of those wold be an instant buy.

    Regards

  16. Wow
    You’re sneaking does suck
You’re right it is a great game!

One thing I noticed…you must be a pirate since you like to sail everywhere
Rather than sailing all the way around the Haitian peninsula just walk to leogane from petit groave.
I always hit up the governor first to see if I can get a promotion that affects the merchant or shipwright prices
Stolen goods are never sold at a loss

  17. the problem with the game is that the moment you capture frigate 2
    it's game over
and if you hang around St. Kitts it is easily possible at the very beginning of the game
With frigate 2 you literally kill all opponents, and there are no more challenges
except to attack Panama on foot

  18. The second sloop of war was named Bob Ross 😂😂😂😂

  19. I used to play this a lot on my Commodore 64 back in the 80's, this is an awesome remake of the game but… i honestly hate those dancing stages… i always mess up >.<

(IMHO tho… the best version i have ever played was the McIntosh one)

  20. Misty water coloured memories of the way we were.

  21. Incredible game. Played it on my cousin's Amiga.

  22. I played this back in late 80s on my vic 64 and later on, on my first PC.

  23. i still have the original sid meiers pirates from the past🙂

  24. Man I played this game so much back in the day!

Oof, paying 1500 gold to repair the flag galleon and then immediately getting cheaper future repairs from the governor hurt me. Lugging those extra ships around really hurt you up until you divided the spoils, but after you went back out you were doing much better!

This makes me want to play again!

  25. After watching i tried playing this masterpiece. Spent about 3 hours trying to troubleshoot a saving error unsuccessfully. Do you use windows 11? Cause that seems to be the bane of my existence

  26. Absolute great fun game, though just a tad repetitive in beating Baron Raymondo.

  27. I got a pirated (heh) copy in the 90s, so I did not have a game map, but I found a book about the history of piracy in the Caribbean, and used a map from that, to play the game

  28. What a fantastic game. Why won't they expand on this game with today's fidelity and processing power?!?

  29. Love this game (the remake), played it for soooo many hours, lol.

  30. Dude, I remember playing the one on the first NES. It was amazing.

  31. Love the game but when captured by spanish near havana, after escape my ship is always stuck on beach and can never move. Game breaker.

  32. How are you able to play this at a normal speed. Every time i load it up everything runs so fast that it is unplayable. Using steam.

  33. Man, I clocked WAY too many hours on this game back in the day…and way too many more on Pirates:Gold back on the Genesis. and fun fact: it isn't even technically a complete game. There are features still missing or unfinished, like interactions with the natives and pirate factions. Or at least, there were last I looked.

  34. I played last time merely 2 years ago. A main quest keeps bugging, and it becomes unplayable

  35. I wonder if there is a modern game similar to Sid Meier's Pirates.

  36. Used to love playing this on the C64, I remember being fascinated with the paper map. I was so bad at the sword fights though.

  37. Can you imagine a game like this set in the mediterranean during the renaissance. Battle of Lepanto and all that.

  38. I loved this game back in the day. Bought it for C64, Amiga, and PC.

  39. I never played this one, but it gives me some very strong Patrician vibes.

  40. So the reason your crew gets mad at you is that morale is a function of loot, crew size, and time. When you pulled into port, you had a bunch more money and fewer men, and you didn't share the spoils. Came to port with like 2400 gold and 110 men, left with like 200 gold and no shares paid out.

  41. HYPE Arr The-DUTCH 🇳🇱👌🏼🇬🇧Thank💤_FOR🗺️#Ⓜ️AP🍁Ⓜ️📧Ⓜ️!More#ries'💤

  42. I'm still upset that the 2010s went by without a remake of this game. First decade since it came out without a new version. Everyone goes on about Assassin's Creed IV and Skull and Bones, but they are crap compared to this game. Pity that pirate games peaked so early.

Gee, I can't imagine why your crew of pirates is mutinous after you wasted thousands of gold.

  43. Oh my goodness I’ve been looking for this game for ages

  44. Love this game, always grabbed an indian war canoe as soon as possible, so fast with or against the wind and rapiered everyone to death
